Cavinti: The Eco Tourism Hub of Laguna

A quick escape from the city is what most people do during their vacations. One of their favorite places to visit is the province of Laguna because it is just near in Metro Manila. Aside from its location, what made Laguna attract so many tourists? Some people think only of Laguna because of its Hot Springs and their delicacies. However, there is so much more in Laguna especially in Cavinti, which is the ecotourism hub of the province.

What is the meaning of “Eco-Tourism?” According tothe International Ecotourism Society (TIES), ecotourism is now defined as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education”.

In other words, ecotourism is a form of tourism that invites tourists to visit natural areas to promote the beauty of nature while educating them on how to preserve them. This is the new trend for tourists abroad and not just here in the Philippines because it teaches us people on how to be responsible with nature.

As mentioned earlier, the municipality of Cavinti is considered to be the ecotourism hub of Laguna because it offers a lot of nature trips for its visitors. The most famous destination in this town is the Cavinti Falls (also known as Pagsanjan Falls) which is in Barangay Anglas and Tibatib.

There are other notable ecotourism destinations that can also be found on Cavinti such as their underground river and caves in Barangay Paowin, the man-made Caliraya Lake, Bumbungan Eco Park, and other nature places that are too many to mention. Some of the said destinations are not known to many people because they are not aware of it.

That’s why Mayor Arroyo and his team decided to join the revolution on Digital Tourism in the Philippines. The municipality of Cavinti partnered with Visitour PH to digitalize their ecotourism with the help of technology. Mayor Arroyo wanted his town to grow even more as they promote the ecotourism hub of Laguna in our country and to promote the health wellness tourism in Cavinti.

He believes that ecotourism is not just good for promoting the environment, but it also encourages the tourists to be fit and healthy. We all know that most natural destinations require some trekking. Therefore, if the tourist neglected his overall wellness and fitness, the tourist may not be able to visit them. That’s why Mayor Arroyo believes that health wellness tourism and ecotourism compliment each other.

There are different wellness programs or events that Cavinti is doing right now. In fact, Cavintri (triathlon event) was a success, and a lot of triathletes joined the said event. According to the local government of Cavinti, people can expect more of these programs because this is really the passion and goal of Mayor Arroyo and his team.

In summary, we can say that the town of Cavinti may have started something new in our country. They took a bold step in utilizing the technologies we have today and combined with their greatest resource which is ecotourism plus their passion to health and wellness of everyone. We can safely that they are not just the ecotourism hub of Laguna but also the wellness capital of the province.
